Central Asia Institute's (CAI) mission is to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The philosophy is to empower the local people through their own initiative. CAI community projects focus primarily in remote, underserved regions where few organizations serve. Since 2005, CAI refined its' priority to focus mainly on rural education, literacy, teacher training, and scholarships, especially for females. Central Asia Institute also continues to pioneer and promote education in regions where there are few or no education opportunities. We now put more resources into sustainable initiatives, to improve the quality of education, support teacher training, and help motivate students to achieve their education goals with higher education. As of 2009, CAI has successfully established 130 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which provide (or have provided) education to over 51,000 students, with an emphasis on girls' education.

Room to Read is an innovative non-profit leader dedicated to promoting and enabling global education. Founded in 2000, the organization is based on the belief that education is crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty in the developing world. Since then, the organization has supported over three million children by providing better access to higher-quality educational opportunities. Room to Read has established more than 700 schools and over 7,000 bilingual libraries with five million books, and continues to support the education of nearly 7,000 girls. Room to Read is providing opportunities that change children's lives and communities throughout Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zambia. By 2010, Room to Read hopes to improve literacy for five million children by establishing over 10,000 libraries and distributing nearly nine million children's books.

Mission: Founded in 2001, The Orphaned Starfish Foundation is dedicated to working with orphans and disadvantaged children throughout Latin America. Its goal is to foster lasting change in the lives of these children by giving them the opportunity to develop vocational skills that will enable them to overcome the cycle of poverty and abuse. The foundation's programs address the poverty and challenges facing the girls by providing them with technology training. The orphanages selected provide an important refuge and haven for the girls. However, while the homes take care of their basic needs, there is little emphasis on preparing them for life beyond the orphanage. This is where the Orphaned Starfish Foundation seeks to have an impact. Through its programs, the foundation provides the girls with the professional tools they will need to support themselves in the future. The foundation has funded and currently supports seventeen projects in Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Panama.

Our team of volunteers seeks out under served pockets of need in rural Guatamala and we research projects that focus on education, vocational training, and sustainable development (clean water, safe stoves.) "Miracles" board then selects those projects that achieve long-term results, improve quality of life, and allow truly impoverished people to help themselves. Sometimes we are asked "Why not help the poor in our country?" In the US, there are poor people, but there are also government and social programs to assist the poor. In Guatemala there are no such programs. The poor in Guatemala are at the level of "extreme poverty" as-when every day is a struggle just to be alive - no basics like food, water, and warm shelter, surviving on less than $1 per day. Funds are raised by the sale of handicrafts made by women and girls of Guatemala. The sale of handicrafts provides the Mayan women an opportunity to earn an income from their home while taking care of their children.
